Programs and Events 2009 - 2010

Sept 16

Patricia Pepe lecture: Buried Treasures. Find those hidden gems that are buried somewhere in your stash! This lecture provides a reason and excuse for that huge “fabric collection”. Patricia offers ideas on how to incorporate many different fabrics into your quilts, including those “ugly, old things” at the bottom of the heap. Check out Patricia’s website at http://www.patriciapepe.com/.

From 12:30-4, Patricia will conduct a workshop on X-treme X-Blocks. Go extreme! Your imagination is the only limit! This class explores many of the design possibilities using the X-Blocks rotary cutting tool. By experimenting with color & value placement and different piecing options, students create spectacular new designs. X-Blocks tool required.

October 21 AUCTION!!!!
November 18 Shannon Shirley lecture: Trunk Show - An Eclectic Mix. Shannon will share her quilts made since 1989 and some of the lessons she has learned along the way. She started as a mainly self-taught traditional quilter, machine piecer, and hand lap quilter. Over the years she started taking technique classes to understand how quilters were creating the wonderful quilts she saw at shows. She now uses any technique she knows of to achieve the end result…a beautiful unique quilt. See more of Shannon’s work at http://www.onceinarabbitmoon.com/.
December 15 2009 HOLIDAY LUNCHEON
January 16 "Quilts of Valor Workshop"
January 20

Eileen Doughty lecture: Evolution of a Landscape Artist Or: The Good, the Bad, and the Arty. Eileen Doughty has been making landscape quilts since her very first project in 1987. In this lecture, she will discuss inspirations, techniques, and materials while displaying successful and even a few not-so-successful original works (since we learn from our mistakes too). Her landscape work includes many wall hangings, some wearable art, and many cutting-edge techniques. Eileen’s quilts have been exhibited across the US and overseas, and are in many corporate, public, and private collections. Check out her website at http://www.doughtydesigns.com/.

From 12:30pm-4, Eileen will conduct a workshop entitled "Cherry Blossom Time." Participants will m achine-sew a postcard-sized quilt portraying our nation’s capitol at cherry blossom time and will learn to use “thread painting,” inking, and fusing to add detail and texture to the landscape elements.

February 17 Lisa Ellis lecture: Healing Quilts. Lisa Ellis will present a slide show of some amazing projects where quilts have been used to better the lives of patients and their families. See some of these quilts at http://www.ellisquilts.com/Healing_Quilts.htm.
March 17

Paula Golden lecture: Nurturing the Creative Soul. How do we find time in our busy schedules to create the quilts that reflect the stories of our hearts? Learn to identify the obstacles to creativity, find simple solutions, and methods to jumpstart the creative force when it is stumped. Paula’s website is http://www.paulagolden.com.

From 12:30 to 3:30, Paula will conduct a Myers Briggs Type Indicator Workshop. She will show us how willingness to understand how one's preferences for taking in information and the decision-making process affect daily life, relationships, and the creative process. Supply fee: $10.00.

April 15-18 Annual Quilt Retreat
April 21

Ann Homes Lecture:  No Sewing Until You Quilt It!  Ann uses French Fuse as a foundation and “builds” her quilt tops using a turned-under appliqué technique. She does no sewing until after she makes her “quilt sandwich,” at which time she quilts and stitches at the same time.

May 19

Ellen Knisley lecture: Art Quilts with Air Pens. Ellen will conduct a workshop 12:30-3:30 entitled Creative Writing on Quilts
