Quilting for Others
Springfield QU members make quilts for a number of organizations as part of our Community Service outreach program. For members' reference the organizations and suggested quilt sizes are below:
- Wounded Warrior quilts (delivered to Fort Belvoir): height 60" to 80", width 50" to 60".
- Baby quilts (delivered to Operation Homefront for baby showers): from 30" to 50" on a side.
- Quilts for Fisher House on Fort Belvoir: 50" by 60" minimum. These quilts are given to family members of those in the Fort Belvoir Hospital.
- Operation Kid Comfort (a program of the Armed Services YMCA): workshops held at SQU once or twice per year.
Farewell blocks are for members who are moving away from our area. Please make nine-patch blocks that complete to 8 inches using 3 inch cut squares, either 5 blue squares and 4 unbleached muslin squares, or 4 blue squares and 5 muslin squares. Please sign your name on one square and heat set using a hot iron.
