Community Service
Centreville QU members work on a number of community service projects each year. Our Community Service Chairperson, Barbara Hoge, is available for any questions concerning community service projects. Currently members make ABC Quilts (directions are listed below), quilts for Fairfax Hospital and various women's clinics, stuffed bears for Fair Oaks Hospital, and Reach for Recovery Bags for the American Cancer Society. In addition, we collect labels from Campbell's foods to donate to Colin Powell Elementary School where we meet. If any member would like to donate their Giant register receipts to Colin Powell Elementary School, it would be greatly appreciated. This can be done at the Giant stores or via their website.

Guidelines for Making Crib Quilts:

Fabric
     100% cotton or at least 50/50 cotton/polyester.
Design
Juvenile prints, panels, patchwork, applique, or any creative pattern
Filling
Bonded polyester batting (light or medium weight), or "Warm & Natural" bonded cotton
Size
     Approximately 36" x 36" (newborn), up to 40"x44" (toddlers to 6 years)

Before turning in your quilt, ABC Quilts asks that you:

  1. Make sure all pins are out and quilt is baby safe
  2. Topstitch around outside of quilt, 1"-2" from edge. Quilt or tie every 4" with a double knot. Please don't use yarn; it comes untied.
  3. Sign your quilt:
         ABC Quilts
         Love & Comfort to You
         Your First Name, State, Year
For each baby quilt you turn in, you will get one chance for drawings to be held at December and June socials (i.e., gift certificates, etc.)
