Rachel's Quilt Patch is located in the historic district near the railroad, antiques shops, & restaurants. The people there are very friendly and always have time for a chat. Their newsletter lists some interesting classes and they have a BEAUTIFUL Christmas block-of-the-month in progress now. It's not too far from the VQMuseum, for those who want to make a day of it. The food at the Mill St. Grill is excellent. I also recommend Mrs. Rowe's for down-home Southern cookin' at a bargain price.

The store has a nice selection of fabrics and books. This store is worth the trip.

Next door is a great needlework store (The Stitching Post, 410.788.7760) and they carry all the latest in supplies and books for both counted thread and canvas work. I usually make a day trip out of it and include some antiquing afterwards. If when you are leaving the store, you turn left from Mellor (back at the fire station), you will follow this road into Ellicot City. There is a small quilt shop in this town and lots of interesting shops. Just be aware that on nice spring and fall days, it is very crowded and parking is difficult, though the town has build municipal parking areas.
