Our goal is to encourage the quilting arts and to have fun learning and sharing.
The Springfield Chapter of QU meets EVERY Tuesday (9:30am – noon) year-round at the Firehall of the Greater Springfield Volunteer Fire Department (GSVFD) at 7011 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 22150.
Our chapter is filled with quilters of all skill levels, and we are continually learning from each other! We have a wide variety of quilting styles - traditional, modern, art quilting, applique, hand quilting and machine quilting. We host two (Fall and Spring) retreats at nearby retreat facilities and two in-town "retreats" in February and June. Sew together Tuesday - Thursday at the Firehall and go home at night!
Special events and activities will be announced as they arise, so be sure to check the QU Calendar of Events for more information on our activities. Quilters are welcome to join our SQU Facebook Page by answering a few questions.
Our monthly meeting schedule (doors open at 9:30am) is:
o First Tuesday – SQU's Business Meeting, Show and Tell, Door Prizes and the “Free Table”.
o Second and Fourth Tuesday - These extra meeting days are for “Sit and Sew” activities, which are informal gatherings to come and sew (machines welcome!), baste your quilts, or just chat with quilting friends. We have irons, cutting mats, table risers to pin quilts, etc.
o Third Tuesday – This is our program meeting day (open to all QU members) when we invite professional teachers to visit us with a trunk show or lecture. These teachers may also schedule associated workshops available to SQU members.
o 5th Tuesday of the month - On these "bonus" days (2 or 3 a year) we will, if possible, schedule special events such as sewing support for our Community Service partners. Open for normal sit and sew activities as well.
o Summer Months – June – August – Open every Tuesday for Sit & Sew activities.
