FQU Workshop—Joni Seidenstein—Joni’s Bag

You could make a bag like this.

With this bag design, you can make anything from a small bag to a tote. All that changes with this method are the dimensions and whether the bag has one strap or two. Loops are optional.

The workshop will be in a classroom on the first floor to the left of where we have our regular meetings. Joni says this little drawstring bag is a "quality item that has practical use and can also bring a touch of whimsy to your life.” She says we will finish a bag in class!

What to bring:

Sewing machine and regular sewing supplies: thread, scissors, ruler, rotary cutter, pins or clips. Supplies needed: a strap whatever width you prefer. Joni suggests the strap be canvas webbing that is 1” to 1.5" wide that you can get at the Fabric Place Basement or from wawak.com. If you want something fancier, you can check Artistic Artifacts or https;//sewsweetness.com/  If you want to wear this bag as a crossbody bag, measure from your hip to the opposite shoulder and double that measurement and add one inch. You’ll also need 4 squares of fabric measuring 8 1/2” x 8 1/2” (two of these will be the outside of the bag and 2 will be the lining. Joni likes a slightly heavier fabric for the outside.) 4 squares of interfacing (such as Shapeflex 101), 28” of grosgrain ribbon plus 16 more inches for the loops, and a cord lock. A kit will be available for $5, payable to the instructor on the day of class, which will include Shape Flex 101, ribbon, and a cord lock.

Cost: $15, nonrefundable
